The Maitreya Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the spreading, teaching, and development of Eastern and Western holistic and contemplative disciplines that contribute to the promotion of a culture of awakening and compassion. This awakening implies the realization of our true nature: the unity and interconnectedness with all life and the universe. Compassion naturally comes forth upon seeing this reality of no separateness and universal belonging, sharing the pain and joy with all beings. The awakened and compassionate person is ethically committed with his surroundings, caring for life in all its forms.
Since the year 2007, the Maitreya Foundation is managed by Grupo Zen Viento del Sur (Southern Wind Zen Group). Founded in 1991 in the City of La Plata, Buenos Aires Province, it is enrolled in the Dirección Provincial de Personas Jurídicas (Matricula 11131 – Legajo 58448) with its original name: Fundación Maitreya International Holistic University.
Currently the Foundation is dedicated to the teaching, practice, and diffusion of Zen Buddhism, its multiple applications, and its integration with related disciplines through seminars, courses, workshops, conferences, retreats, meetings, publications and cultural events.

The word Maitreya is Sanskrit and means
“that which loves.”
According to the Buddhist tradition, this is
the name of the “potential, inherent or
future Buddha.”
Maitreya evokes the potential of full
enlightenment that lies within each person
and flourishes in love and compassion
for all beings.
